Privacy notice

Last updated: 4 October 2026

This notice explains what information Steps 2 Success Education collects, why, how long we keep it, who helps us look after it, and the choices and rights you have. We have tried to write it in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us and we will happily explain.

1. Who we are

Steps 2 Success Education is run by André Georges, a primary school teacher, from Australia. We provide online arithmetic courses for children preparing for the KS2 SATs in England. For the information described in this notice, we are the "controller", which means we decide how and why it is used.

You can contact us at steps2successedu@gmail.com. We are happy to give you our postal address on request.

2. A note for children

If you are a child using our courses, here is the short version.

  • When you do a test, we save your name, the email address you type in, your answers and your score. This lets your grown-up and your teacher see how you are getting on.
  • We only use this to help you learn. We never sell it, and we never show your scores to anyone else.
  • If you are not sure about anything here, ask the grown-up who signed you up. They can ask us to show them, change or delete your information at any time.

Parents and carers: our courses are designed to be bought and set up by an adult. Please use your own email address, or one you manage, when your child takes a test.

3. What we collect

When you buy or join a course

Your account, enrolment and payment are handled by our course platform, Teachable. This includes your name, email address and purchase details. Card details are processed by Teachable's payment providers and are never seen or stored by us.

When a child takes a test in a course

  • The first name, surname and email address typed in at the start of the test.
  • Each answer typed, whether it was right, the marks gained, the total score, and when the test was started, saved and submitted.
  • Whether a retake has been allowed.

When you use the free Readiness Check

  • The child's first name and year group.
  • The email address entered to get the full report.
  • The answers given and the score.

When you sign up for emails on our website

Your email address, and any name you give.

When you leave a review

Your star rating, your comments, the name you give, whether you are a parent, teacher or tutor, your child's year group if you choose to give it, your email address if you give it, which course the review is about, and whether you agreed for us to share it.

Technical information

Like any website, the services that host our pages receive basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type when you visit. We do not use this to identify you.

We do not collect any special category information (such as health information), and we do not make automated decisions about anyone.

4. Why we use it

Data protection law requires us to have a lawful reason, called a "lawful basis", for each use.

5. Emails from us

If you sign up for our emails on our website, we add your email address to our mailing list and send occasional SATs arithmetic tips, course news and offers. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also email us to be removed. Unsubscribing does not affect your course or your child's results.

The email address you give for the Readiness Check is used only to send you that report. It is not added to our mailing list.

We also send emails you need, such as your Readiness Check report and purchase and course emails sent through Teachable. These are not marketing.

6. Reviews

Reviews come straight to us and are private unless you choose "Yes, you can share it". If you do, we may show your review on our website with your first name and last initial only, and we may email you first to check. We never show your email address or your child's name. You can ask us to take a shared review down, or delete your review completely, at any time.

7. Who helps us

We use a small number of trusted services to run Steps 2 Success. They only handle your information on our instructions, or under their own privacy policies where they are acting for themselves, such as when Teachable processes a payment. We never sell, rent or trade your information.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of a child.

8. Where it is stored

Our main database is in London. Because we are based in Australia, we access information from Australia, and some of the services above are in the United States. Where information goes outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards UK law allows, such as the UK's data bridge with the United States or the standard contract terms our providers offer for international transfers.

9. How long we keep it

  • Test results and Readiness Check results: for 24 months after the last activity, then deleted. Results are most useful in the year before the SATs.
  • Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.
  • Reviews: until you ask us to delete them. Shared reviews stay on our website only while we are using them.
  • Sales records: kept by Teachable and by us for as long as tax law requires.
  • Backups: we take an encrypted backup of our database every week and keep it in Google Drive for up to eight weeks. When we delete someone's information, it is removed straight away from the live database, and any copies inside older backups disappear when those backups expire, within eight weeks.

10. Keeping it safe

  • Full results can only be viewed through our private, password-protected teacher dashboard. The public test pages are locked down so they cannot list or browse other people's results.
  • Backups are encrypted (AES-256) before they leave our database, and can only be opened with a passphrase that only we hold.
  • Information is sent over secure, encrypted connections (HTTPS).
  • Only André can access student results.

If something ever went wrong with your information, we would tell you and, where the law requires it, the Information Commissioner's Office.

11. Cookies and browser storage

  • Test pages: the name and email typed in are kept in your browser's temporary session storage, so you do not have to retype them on each test. This is cleared when the browser tab is closed. The practice tests also store a simple counter on your device to limit the number of practice runs. It contains no personal information.
  • Course website: Teachable uses cookies to keep you logged in and to run the site. Please see Teachable's own cookie information for details.
  • We do not use advertising cookies on our test pages.

12. Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you or your child;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
  • ask us to delete it;
  • ask us to stop or limit how we use it, or object to us using it;
  • ask for it in a format you can take elsewhere;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from emails or asking us to take down a review.

Parents and carers can make these requests on behalf of their child. Just email us. We will reply within one month, and there is no charge. We may ask you to confirm your identity first, to protect your child's information.

13. Contact and complaints

Email: steps2successedu@gmail.com
Postal address: available on request.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

We may update this notice from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If we make an important change, we will let customers know.
